How we start
There’s no price list, because there’s no piece of software that is the same for two companies. There is however a way of arriving at a figure, and it’s always the same one.
Custom doesn’t mean everything from scratch: you start from the piece you need now (stock, diary, orders) and the rest gets added when it’s needed. Bought software is often paid for per user and per module instead, for years, and a tiny portion of it gets used.

And what isn’t. If something off the shelf is enough for you, I say so: I don’t sell custom work for the pleasure of it.

Why custom, and not off the shelf
Bought or custom, the job is the same one: holding your company data and telling you how things are going.
Almost everybody sells you a program that is already made, and it is you who adapts to it: you learn its way of working, you keep the entries you don’t need and you do by hand the ones that are missing. I do the opposite. I look at how you work and I build the program around you, even if a program like that doesn’t exist yet. The result is that you work more tidily, faster and with fewer things done by hand. It holds for any trade.
And it doesn’t have one single shape: what gets built is what you need, and it can take the place of the program you use now, whatever that is. The files you work on today go inside it too, whatever kind they are.
One example: instead of reminding customers of their appointments by hand, one at a time on WhatsApp, the software sends the reminder on its own.

Now custom can actually be done
Software cut to fit a small company, ten years ago, was a cost that didn’t stand up: months of development. Today writing software is far quicker, and that’s the reason custom has become a sensible choice again, even for a company of ten people.
Not in the cost of writing it, but in understanding properly how you work: that’s where this kind of software is either right or wrong. It’s why the first thing I ask to see are the sheets and notebooks you use now, not a list of the features you’d like.
Frequently asked questions.
A package works if you work the way everybody else works. If you have a particular way of running things, and almost every business does, you end up adapting yourself to the program and keeping the truth on a spreadsheet on the side. Custom means building only the piece you need, on the way you actually work. If a package is enough for you instead, I’ll tell you.
It depends on what it has to do, and I build the price on the time it saves you: if the sum doesn’t come out in your favour there’s no point doing it, and I tell you beforehand. I don’t work by the hour and there are no costs appearing along the way: a clear figure in the quote, before anything starts.
On a database dedicated to your project, with access limited to you and me for as long as we work together. No data ends up in an archive shared with other clients, and where the data physically sits is something I tell you when we define the project, before you decide. I don’t promise you particular certifications, because I don’t have any: what there is is a standard infrastructure done properly, and the ability to take your data away whenever you want.
With Excel almost always yes, in and out: many projects start precisely by importing the files you already have. With other programs it depends on what they allow: some open up without trouble, others are closed. I check before promising it, and if it can’t be done I tell you straight away.
